On Thursday I had a phone call to tell me that Richard had an accident at work. He was cutting down a tree, like he does time and time again, all day, every day at work, when a branch snapped sending the tree flying towards his head. Not really what I wanted to hear at ten o'clock on a thursday morning 9or at any time thank you very much!). He was knocked to the ground, and suffered various cuts and bruises and bits missing, along with being unable to turn his head. Being a typical man, he was "absloutely fine", and "no need to go to get it checked out". Well, I begged to differ! So after me giving him a hard time down the phone, he got an appointment at 4pm. Luckily he was fine, no long lasting damage, albeit he was very sore, and I thank my lucky stars it wasn't any worse. The upside was however, we got to spend a very rare 4 day weekend together!
I dragged him along (again) to the best bookshop ever, and bagged myself a couple more books, then we had a trip down to Alnwick. We wanted to go visit Harry Potter's Castle, but learning that it cost £12 almost to get in (each!!) we decided a trip to Warkworth Castle would be a more frugal option!
Dressing up at the castle.
Some artwork by local schools.
Then, the highlight of Lewis' day...he found a real live ladybird on the season table!!!
It's so amazing to think a year ago he would have screamed the house down even if he saw anything like that. Even if I say so myself, I am so proud of the work I have done with my amazing little boy, to help him enjoy ordinary, everyday things, to learn what others take for granted...to help him know it's okay being "Lewis" :)
What a lovely post, brought a tear to my eye :-)
ReplyDeleteLadybirds are also a big hit in this household at the moment.
Hi have you been to Hulne Park? Theres a great tower and a hidden Abbey which is brill. I work in Alnwick live Longhoughton. On Green parent Site. Also noticed that the buggers are peeing about with your wee ones education. Is he at Wooler first school? I work in the High School with some yp who have a diagnosis of ASD- have you been in touch with the SEN officer and all that malarky. I like Home ed too btw but as a single mum need to earn some pennies. Work in fenkle street. I know a few of the SEN officers at county hall and they might be able to stress to the school.... Anyway if you want to ring me at work the number is 01665605982 I work for the old careers service. Shortontime ( Louise)
ReplyDeleteHulne Park is free and kept a bit quiet - owned by the Duke! Abbey looks like a castle! great for walking!
Just googled Hulne Park; it looks great! I have never heard of it before, and never knew it existed! We are going to have a trip down there this weekend.
ReplyDeleteTa for the number-I may give you a ring sometime, but right now it's just all giving me sleepless nights :( It's a bit of a bugger when the sen officer is also the head lol, but yea, thanks for the offer of help, will prob get in touch shortly :)
SEn officers work at county hall in morpeth - the head will be the SENCO =- Special educational needs co ordinator . The SEN officers are responsible for giving the school the cash for extra support, writing SEN statements and IEP's. basically you can bypass school go confidentially to county hall and ask to speak to the SEN officer who is responsible for making sure provision is in place. Its all beaurcratic ( ha I need spell check) nonsense. If its in your sons statement then he should by law and by rights get it. Whens his annual review - one of the SEN officers should be there. Any names ring a bell, Sarah Jordan, Ann Jolley, ian Hampson and a woman called Alison Bravey who is responsible for parent partnerships.... I think. Both of my colleagues as parents have had exp pf making sure their sons get the ed they need and have played the northumberland schools game. ( One for severe dyslexia, the other for congenital muscular dystrophy. Bugger - have just recycled ( free cycled a wedd dress and shoes!!!- looks good though. Think I might have seen it as am a second hand shop hound)
