Starting on the garden :)

Starting on the garden is starting to make this house feel like a home. We uprooted a few plants from the old garden in the hope that they will survive the house move, and flourish in our new garden. Before we started it was basically halved-half the garden was grass, the other half a sandy base where the previous tenants had put down flagstones, then moved them when they left. It was very basic, but tidy, and will prove easy enough to put our own stamp on it. Typiclly though, Lewis has decided that he *loves* gardening, after never showing an interest in our old garden and its hugeness. So we decided to mark off a small part of the garden for veg, where Lewis can grow a few things, and we can have a small slice of the Good Life which we had to leave behind.

The garden before we started...yes, its small and plain, but its quite decent for a council house :)

The bit surrounded by trellis is going to be Lewis little veg patch. And please excuse my husbands pale fat belly in the photos lol!
We dug the border out and planted our own shrubs in there. Still quite a few still to go in, including my favourite lavender :)
 Lewis doing some digging.
My herbs are all going to be planted along this wall, plus the rest in pots on the patio.

Finally, I am *so* excited to be able to hang my washing out on the line!!!! Simple pleasures :)

  1. Oh how lovely to be starting afresh, I sometimes feel we need to move house in order to re-align our thoughts and come together again. Putting a garden in as a family is wonderful, I hope you have lots of lovely veg and herbs soon, check out The Urban Homestead website for inspiration on creating amazing productive gardens in smaller spaces. x

  2. I'm sure your garden will be beautiful. I love a small garden with a nice flowery border. And a washing line is such a nice thing to have, I do love the smell of freshly dried washing, especially sheets! Plus you have all the fun of making it totally yours, enjoy!
